AMC Stonebriar - Saturday Afternoon

Bill and I went to the AMC Theatre up at the Stonebriar Centre in Frisco. We were there with Paul to see Failure to Launch with Horse Face* (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Matthew McConaughey.

Imagine our surprise when we found out that matinee pricing ended at 4pm on the weekend. Let me get this straight. Matinees are by definition in the afternoon and 4pm is the middle of the afternoon. Most people go to the movies on the weekend. So, matinee pricing ends half way through the afternoon during high traffic times. What a rip! Not only are movies now too expensive at $8.50 a ticket but the theatres are now essentially getting rid of matinees.

One wonders why profits in the movie industry shrank by 6% in 2005. Oh, and let's not forget that some movies stars are now commanding over $30 million a picture. That's what my $8.50 is going to.

Now this is the surprising part. Bill and I and our buddies Janet and Paul go to the movies every weekend. The four of us are giving the AMC Stonebriar on average $1769.00 a year in ticket sales. Add in various snacks at about $932 a year and we have a whopping $2701.00 a year for AMC. That's a tiddy sum when one considers we only see about five good movies a year.

I vote for Netflix movies at our houses from now on. When AMC cut off matinee pricing at 4pm, that was the last straw!!

I know. I'm starting to sound like Kramer on Seinfeld.

*Bill calls her Horse Face. Not me. I like SJP. I think Bill does too and he just won't admit to it.

Shallow and stupid.

Shallow for the insult on the actress an stupid for spending that much annually on movies and not already knowing the matinee info.
