What I Did On My Summer Vacation - The Trip to Galveston

Bill and I drove down to Galvestion, TX on a Saturday. It was only a mere five hour drive and it felt even shorter because half of the journey was through Houston suburbs. Sometime after Ennis and before The Woodlands, we stopped for a little breakfast at McDonalds. That place was hoppin' with wall to wall people and causing a traffic jam with the drive-thru line. That's the second time I've stopped at a small town McDonalds in the past two months and found the place swimming with people... but that is another post for another time.

So, we popped across the street to the local Sonic and ordered twin breakfast combos - sausage burritos, tater tots and Cokes. The burritos were brimming with fixings. I wonder if they are trying to lure the McDonalds crowd over with more food for the money?

It rained heavily around Houston and Galveston. Because of the drought in North Texas, it was the first time we'd seen rain or felt humidity in ages. At one point we stopped at a Super Target to use the potty and buy a bottle of body lotion that I forgot back home. When we opened the doors in the parking lot a wall of heavy, wet air hit us and we just stood there for second taking it in. We can't wait until the drought up here ends.

Between Houston and Galveston the rain was so bad I was doing 30 on an interstate and still hydroplaning. We got to our parking area around noon. Bill (have I blogged about how wonderful he is) booked a spot in an discount cruise parking facility that had door-to-door (or is the door-to-ship) service. Once we were at the dock we were shuffled through all the lines and necessary paperwork in under a half hour. The whole experience was so smooth that I almost got a little paranoid about it.
