Tomorrow is the 4th of July. There's been a lot in the news lately about how this country is going to Hades in a handbasket. Well, that has always been the case, hasn't it? I think - even with the economy and stuff in a downturn - we obsess over ourselves because we are always striving to be better, keep the edge, have the initiative, improve, fix it, and do the right thing...
How could a country so obsessed with being better than we already are really be so bad? I still think this is the best place to be.
Why?
Here are some reasons:
Damn good infrastructure
Lots of optimists
2008 Presidential Campaign
Opportunity
More people trying to get in than trying to get out
US Postal service
Smiles everywhere (we're still a friendly bunch even if we invade your country)
Big retail stores
Big melting pot
Lots of religions to choose from
The South
Armed Forces
Great food
Mountians, plains, deserts, small towns and big cities
Rock-n-roll, blues, jazz and country - all home grown
Tex-Mex
We like to argue - 'cause we still care
Senator Ted Kennedy - we'll miss you, baby!
Those Amazing Stollenwerck People
Sunday morning news shows
Baseball
... and liberty. Can't forget the most important thing.
