An Ode to Anthony Bourdain

Maybe it's because I am a francophile. Maybe it's because I have a thing for aging hipsters (Adam Clayton, Ed Bradley, Ed Harris, etc.). Maybe it's because I am a sucker for macho writing, bad boy behavoir and food. I simply cannot get enough of Anthony Bourdain.

You might have seen him. He is on the Travel Channel and sometimes on the Food Network. He writes. He travels. He eats anything that comes his way. He's also trying to get us snuggly, happy Americans to break out of our comfort zones a bit, if only vicariously. This New Jersey born son of a Frenchman who haunts New York and reminds me so much of that city I love is the stuff dreams are made of.

He is also a story of redemption, new beginnings, teaching an old dog a new trick, and reinvention. His road is a long one - from college drop-out to cook to herion addict to top chef in NYC to best-selling author. He is proof that people explore the very boundaries of who they are and still have a new adventure around the corner. I like that.

Everybody should take a moment to check out No Boundaries with Anthony Bourdain. Read one of his many books: Kitchen Confidential, The Nasty Bits or A Cook's Tour.

Be transported somewhere else with this racy little boy at your side.

And do you know what is really sexy about this beast? He's been with the same gal (Nancy) for thirty years.

That speaks volumes to me.

Thank you, Tony. You make the world delicious.
